Self care can be so many different things, from simple daily habits like getting enough sleep and eating nutritious meals to more intentional practices like meditation, exercise, and setting boundaries.

Often enough we are juggling multiple responsibilities and commitments, but making self care an important part of your routine is a good place to take care of yourself. There are so many articles out there with some pretty great tips on self care ideas. The most important thing to remember is to find something that works for you and stick to it. Going on a self care journey and taking care of yourself is what is most important. Take one small step at a time and you’ll ace living the life you want.

Morning self care routine ideas that are sure to kick off your day with a bang!

I love the way I feel after finishing my morning self care routine, it makes me feel refreshed and ready for the day ahead! I must admit that at first it was really hard to drag myself out of bed and get stuff done instead of sleeping for an extra hour. Now, I’m so glad I dragged myself out of bed and got into a routine that’s good for me and my body! Try adding one or two of these self care ideas into your morning routine and make way for the change you’ve been wanting.

Wake up a little bit earlier.

I know what you’re thinking, who wants to wake up early? Well, rising with the sun allows for a slow transition into the day, that means no rushing to get ready because you’ve used the snooze button one too many times. Early mornings allow you to make time for yourself and add a few activities into your morning routine to help you get ready for the day. I know this might be easier said than done but there are a few things you can do to help you adjust to the early wakeup call a little bit easier.

Tips to help you wake up earleir:

  • Gradually adjust your sleep schedule: Instead of trying to wake up drastically earlier all at once, gradually adjust your bedtime and wake-up time by 15-30 minutes earlier each day until you reach your desired waking time. This allows your body to adapt to the new schedule more smoothly.
  • Set a motivating alarm: Choose an alarm tone that motivates you to wake up, whether it’s your favorite song, an inspirational message, or a gentle sunrise alarm clock.
  • Place your alarm out of arms reach: Forcing yourself to get out of bed to turn off your alarm helps you to wake up instead of being able to press the snooze button when you don’t feel like getting up.
  • Avoid stimulants before bed: Limit your intake of caffeine and avoid heavy meals, alcohol, and electronic devices at least an hour before bedtime. These can interfere with your ability to fall asleep and negatively impact the quality of your rest.
  • Have a morning routine to look forward to: Having something to look forward to can make waking up earlier feel more rewarding and worthwhile.

Start your day with some hydration.

There’s nothing better than starting your day with a refreshing glass of water! After a night of rest, our bodies are naturally dehydrated, making it essential to replenish fluids first thing in the morning. Drinking a glass of water when you wake up hydrates your body and also jumpstarts your metabolism, aids digestion, and helps flush out toxins.

Hydration is the most important part of maintaining cognitive function and energy levels throughout the day. No matter the occasion, making drinking water a habit can never be a bad thing. I always keep a water bottle on hand to make sure I drink enough water throughout the day.

Eat a healthy, nourishing meal.

There’s nothing quite as good as eating a healthy meal in the morning. Breakfast truly earns its title as the most important meal of the day, providing essential nutrients and energy to fuel both your body and mind. Opting for a balanced breakfast rich in whole grains, lean proteins, and fresh fruits or vegetables not only satisfies hunger but also supports your body the way it needs to be. By nourishing your body with nutritious foods early in the day, you kickstart your metabolism, stabilize blood sugar levels, and enhance cognitive function.

Life can be quite unpredictable and I don’t always have time to make a fresh meal, I highly rely on meal planning. It’s a great way to ensure you have a healthy meal on hand when time might not be on your side. There are a few companies you can use to buy freshly made, healthy meals for the week.

Start your day by getting active.

No matter the type of activity, whether it’s stretching, taking a walk or some morning yoga, there’s no better way to start your day. Doing exercise early in the day increases energy levels and enhances mental clarity and focus, making it easier to tackle tasks with enthusiasm and efficiency. I prefer exercising in the morning because my day can get really chaotic in a split second, that gives me less of an opportunity to make excuses, I’m only human and sometimes life can get the best of me.

Activities you can try:

  • Morning walk or jog: Take a brisk walk or go for a jog around your neighborhood or a nearby park to get your blood flowing and enjoy some fresh air.
  • Yoga or stretching: Practice a series of yoga poses or engage in a stretching routine to improve flexibility, release tension, and promote relaxation.
  • Bodyweight workout: Do a bodyweight workout routine that includes exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups, and planks to strengthen muscles and increase endurance.
  • Cycling: Go for a bike ride either outdoors or on a stationary bike to get your heart rate up and enjoy a low-impact cardiovascular workout.
  • Dance party: Have a mini dance party in your living room by putting on your favorite upbeat music and moving to the rhythm to elevate your mood and burn calories.
  • Swimming: Take a dip in the pool for a refreshing and invigorating swim session that engages your entire body and provides a great cardiovascular workout.
  • High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): Add high-intensity interval training exercises into your morning routine for a quick and efficient full-body workout that gets your heart pumping.
  • Pilates: Practice Pilates exercises to strengthen your core, improve posture, and increase overall body strength and flexibility.

Give meditation a go.

I love the absolute peace and quiet that comes with meditation and it’s a great way to start and end your day. Taking just a few minutes each morning to sit in stillness and quiet the mind allows you to create a sense of inner calm and resilience that can carry you through the challenges of the day ahead. Whether you prefer guided meditation, focused breathing exercises, or simply sitting in silence, the benefits of morning meditation are more than you can think of numerous. Meditation can help reduce stress, improve focus and concentration, enhance self-awareness, and promote a greater sense of wellness in your life.

By starting your day with meditation, you allow yourself to create a sacred space for self-reflection and inner exploration, laying the foundation for a more mindful and fulfilling life.

Don’t forget about practicing gratitude.

This would have to be one of the most important aspects of a good morning self care routine in my opinion. Taking just a few moments each morning to reflect on the things you’re grateful for can help create a sense of abundance, joy, and appreciation for the blessings in your life. Whether it’s the warmth of the sun streaming through your window, the love of friends and family, or the simple pleasures of a hot cup of coffee, acknowledging and expressing gratitude can have profound effects on your mental and emotional well-being.

Starting your day with a grateful heart will invite more positivity and optimism into your life, making it easier to navigate challenges and setbacks with resilience and grace. So take a moment each morning to count your blessings and create an attitude of gratitude—it’s a simple practice that can truly enrich your life.

It can be so easy to get caught up in the stress and negatives in life and that’s when life gets you down most. We tend to forget about the little things and at the end of they day, they become the most important things. When you look back in life, you hardly ever remember the stress you had at work or the fight you had with a loved one. These things become insignificant as life goes on, but the things you should be grateful for, those are the things you end up remembering. A great way to do this is by keeping a gratitude journal.

Having a good skincare routine doesn’t hurt.

There are two things in life that can make you have the best day ever – glowing skin and perfect hair! Well, they might not be the only two things, but they come up pretty high on my list. Taking care of your skin enhances your physical appearance and promotes a sense of self-love and mindfulness. By cleansing, toning, and moisturizing your skin in the morning, you remove impurities and hydrate your skin while creating a moment of self care and pampering that sets a positive tone for the day ahead. I sing this song every time I can, but never forget your sunscreen!

Not only should you not forget to put on sunscreen in the morning, but reapplying throughout the day won’t hurt either! Whether you have a simple routine or a more elaborate skincare ritual, making time for skincare as part of your morning self care routine is a beautiful way to honor and care for yourself, inside and out.

Conclusion.

Following a morning self care routine is important to make sure you become or stay the healthiest version of yourself. By doing things that nourish your mind, body, and soul, you can set yourself up for a great day ahead. Experiment with these ten ideas and tailor them to fit your unique needs and preferences, and watch as your mornings become a time of rejuvenation and empowerment. Besides, who doesn’t like a little me time before the day even starts?

Happy caring,
