The best low calorie trick or treat candy to indulge in this Halloween.

Halloween might seem like something to fear if you are trying to get in shape or lose weight, but really it shouldn’t be. Indulging in candy for one night won’t throw all your progress out the window, as long as you fall into your normal routine the following day. If you would rather stay on track, there are a few low calorie Halloween candy options you\’ll love trying. Calorie counting will always be your friend and help you stay on track.

Smarties.

When I think about Smarties, it has a whole different meaning for someone in South Africa. Our version of Smarties is candy-coated chocolate pellets but I do love both versions of Smarties I’ve been exposed to. Smarties make for a great low calorie trick or treat candy as one roll comes in at around 25 calories. The fact that these tangy discs come in individually packed rolls, makes it a lot easier to not binge on an entire pack in one night.

Twizzlers.

I am a huge fan of Twizzlers and although they might be slightly higher on the calorie scale, they are well worth it. For around 100 calories you can have 10 pieces of Twizzler Nibs or two regular Twizzlers. It is slightly more challenging to not overindulge in these sweet treats as they do come in large quantities, but they do make for a healthy Halloween candy alternative if you have good self-control. But let’s be honest, one or two extra Twizzlers won’t make a difference if you just fall back in line with your regular routine the following day. You won’t gain 2 pounds in one day, I promise.

Hershey’s Kisses.

What is Halloween without some chocolate? Hershey’s Kisses makes for the perfect low calorie trick or treat candy option and the fact that they are individually wrapped makes it a lot easier to control your portions rather than binging on a whole bag. I suggest taking a few out of the bag and putting it in a small bowl with some fresh fruit to make your snack more satisfying and diverse. With just 22 calories per piece, Hershey’s Kisses allow you to indulge in rich, creamy milk chocolate without derailing your weight loss goals.

Almond Joy (Snack Size).

I am a sucker for anything with coconut in it, so I was pretty excited to be able to add an Almond Joy to my list of low calorie Halloween candy. These snack size coconut and almond bars come in at around 80 calories per bar whereas the regular size bars come in at around 234 calories per bar. This blend of textures and flavors makes Almond Joy a standout option, especially for coconut and nut lovers like myself. The smaller portion size allows you to enjoy the decadent taste without overindulging, making it easier to maintain a balanced diet during the candy-filled festivities.

Jolly Rancher Hard Candy.

Jolly Rancher hard candies make for a great healthy Halloween candy option because they last so much longer and are well worth the calorie to amount ratio. Each piece of fruity goodness has around 23 calories each. Available in a variety of vibrant flavors like cherry, green apple, watermelon, and grape, Jolly Ranchers offers a burst of intense flavor that is both refreshing and satisfying. Their hard candy form encourages slow consumption, which can help curb cravings and prolong the enjoyment of the candy. The fact that they are individually wrapped sure does help too.

Peppermint Patties (Snack Size).

If you love the taste of peppermint, these Peppermint Patties will make for great low calorie Halloween candy. Each snack-sized patty has about 50 calories, making it a great option for enjoying the rich combination of dark chocolate and peppermint without the guilt. The smooth, creamy peppermint center encased in a thin layer of dark chocolate gives you a delightful contrast in textures and flavors, and is loved by many for good reason.

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups (Snack Size).

There’s nothing quite as delicious as PB and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are a Halloween favorite. They don’t really fall under the low calorie Halloween candy category, but because they are such a favorite, knowing the calories won’t hurt. These cups come in at around 110 per cup. The iconic combination of sweet and salty flavors, along with the smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture, makes this the perfect anytime candy. Being individually wrapped makes controlling your portion so much easier.

Tootsie Roll Midgees.

Tootsie Rolls are a nostalgic treat if there has ever been one. Every piece has around 11 calories, making it a sensible choice for those who want to enjoy a sweet treat without consuming too many calories. Tootsie Rolls are made with a distinct, cocoa-flavored taffy that provides a satisfying chew and a nostalgic flavor reminiscent of classic candies. The individually wrapped pieces are perfect for trick-or-treating, ensuring easy distribution and portion control.
